Muker is an outstandingly picturesque Dales village. The surrounding hillsides are characterised by drystone walling and inhabited by Swaledale sheep, an especially tough breed adapting themselves to the harsh weather conditions of the high Pennine country. In the heyday of the lead mining industry 1,450 people lived here, and there was a regular market. Lead miners worked the seams with picks and shovels, walking miles to and from their work in hills. To supplement their income, they knitted as they walked. Remnants of those former days are the Literary Institute and the Public Hall "for Muker Parish 1922".
0.5 miles from Muker. A delightful quiet farm site, set beside a small beck, and surrounded by magnificent views of the valley. The Pennine Way and Coast-to-Coast pass near by, and the small village of Muker is less than half a mile from the campsite with it's village stores, cafes, and traditional local pub.

Stoneleigh B&B is privately owned. The property is situated in the beautiful village of Muker at the head of Swaledale. The cottage has a south facing garden with tables and chairs so you can sit and relax after a hard day of walking, with a nice cup of tea or coffee and homemade biscuits. The village has an excellent pub with a good selection of well-kept local ales, and also serves good bar meals. There is also a tea room and shop, both very close to our accommodation. Two of our double en-suite rooms have beautiful views of the hay meadows. Pick ups are available if you find yourselves tired with, a small charge, and washing of clothes is available if needed.
