Horton is a walkers' paradise, set in limestone country, overlooked by Pen y Ghent and with access to Yorkshire's other two "Peaks", Whernside and Ingleborough. The Pen y Ghent Café has the oldest PW record book for you to sign, and it takes its responsibilities seriously for keeping an eye out on would-be Three Peak walkers. St Oswald's Church has a fine Norman doorway and a complete Norman nave. The huge limestone quarry outside the village is a reminder that the English National Parks, as well as being places of outstanding natural beauty, are also places where people do tough jobs to earn a living.
