Q. What time will our bags be collected and delivered?

A. Bags need to be ready for collecting from 8.30 am, and will be delivered by 4.30 pm (subject to road conditions).

Q. Do you deliver to Airbnb properties?

A. Yes we do but you need to confirm and ensure our drivers will have access to drop off / pick up your bags between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm.

Q. Is there a weight limit for our bags?

A. Yes – the weight limit is 20kg for each bag.

Q. Can I tie sleeping bags/roll mats to my main bag?

A. No items are to be attached to any bags.

Q. What happens if my bag is overweight?

A. We will provide an overweight notice and ask that you reduce the weight in your main luggage. Sherpa Van can provide a holdall for £7.50 that you can pack your excess gear into. You can either pay to have this bag moved each day or pay to put into storage.

Q. What are bag storage costs?

A. On most of our routes we can store bags at our office in Richmond, North Yorkshire. The cost is £54 per bag which will be picked up at your first hotel and delivered to your last. Please ensure the bag is labelled for storage. Contact the office for details on which routes we can store bags.

Q. Do we need to label our bags?

A. On the first day, you will need to attach your own label with your name and details of your first night’s accommodation. Our driver will attach a label to your bag when he collects for the first time, which you will need to fill in from day 2 onwards.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. Bag movements start from £14.50 per bag per move but this does vary depending on the trail. Refer to the trail pages for further details.

Q. Do some properties ask for deposits or full payment at the time of booking?

Yes and we will advise at the time of booking.

Q. Can we get a lift with our bags if we don’t want to walk that day?

A. We can’t guarantee this - you will need to call the office by 5.00 pm the day prior to check.

Q. How are you responding to the COVID-19 / Coronavirus situation?

Q. What happens if we need to make changes to our itinerary or accommodation after we have booked?

A. Call us on 01748 826 917 or email info@sherpavan.com to discuss the changes with us.  If you are already on your walk, please call.

Q. What happens if I’m unable to continue my walk or cycle because of injury?

A. If you cancel your walk or cycle once you have commenced, you need to contact us by phone immediately so that we can remove your bags from the transport lists. No partial refund is applicable, and you would need to make an insurance claim if applicable.  

You need to call your accommodation to advise you are cancelling.  Cancellation fees may be applicable.

Q. Can I book for next year?

A. If advanced bookings have opened, you will be able to choose the year from the list of available seasons when you start a new itinerary. By default, the current year is always selected.

Keep an eye on our social media and sign up for our mailing list to be the first to hear when the next season opens for bookings. And browse to any of our routes to find the start and end dates.

Once you have chosen a year, the website will not allow you to switch your itinerary to a different year. If you need to change the year of your itinerary, please click the "cog" icon in the top right of any route page and then click the yellow DELETE button. this will clear all of you itinerary details and you can start a fresh itinerary for a different year.

Q. Do you deliver to Ennerdale Youth Hostel / Black Sail Youth Hostel / Skiddaw House?

A. No – you will need to carry overnight essentials, and we will keep your main bag secure and deliver the following day to your designated accommodation. There will still be the daily fee charged for the secure holding, and to cover the additional mileage the following day.

Q. Why is there a minimum of 2 bags per move on the Pennine Way, and why are the prices on this route higher than on other routes?

A. To deliver bags on the Pennine Way, the driving distances are quite far therefore costing more in fuel. Time and distance need to be taken into account for this route and therefore the costs are higher.

Q. Do you have a drop off point only in St Bees and a drop off/collection point only in Robin Hood’s Bay?

A. St Bees – Stonehouse Farm (there is a small fee payable directly upon dropping off)
Robin Hood’s Bay – Bay Taxis (small fee payable directly upon collection).

Q. Do you have a drop off/collection point only in Ilkley?

A. Riverside Hotel, Ilkley – direct fee payable per bag
