A small hamlet with some B&Bs, on the banks of the Oughtershaw Beck river. Set in its craggy landscape of boulders with patchy woodland, there is the Victorian hall with its slate roof and stone mullioned windows. There is a bunkhouse, and a John Ruskin built school made of polished marble, as well as a large Celtic cross that was built for Queen Victoria's Jubilee.
Swarthghyll Farm and Activity Centre is a working thousand acre sheep farm set in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, that caters for the needs of walkers. Breakfasts, evening meals and packed lunches are bought to order plus any wine if required (menus from Sherpa) and are payable on arrival. Please return completed menus to Swarthghyll Farm by post, email or phone. Breakfasts are cooked yourself in the flat kitchen.
