This is the first village with real 'Dales' character that you pass - it is a quarter mile off the trail. Being undeniably pretty, with some fine 17th century houses. Even if you are aiming for Burnsall, Appletreewick is worth a detour, if only for a 'cream tea.' If you are here at lunchtime (unlikely if you started the day in Ilkley) there are pubs serving bar meals and Yorkshire beer.
A traditional Dales inn with 6 guest rooms overlooking the route that has featured in the Camra good beer guide for a number of years, stocking a wide selection of continental beers as well as traditional ale. £10 per person of the room price goes towards your evening meals.
