The deep, winding valley of Borrowdale, with its level green meadows and steep slopes clad in oak woodland is set among rugged ‘fells’ in the wild heart of the Lake District, and deservedly a magnet for walkers. Upper Borrowdale forms a single parish, but contains a number of separate hamlets: Rosthwaite, Stonethwaite, Longthwaite and Seatoller, each of which has a couple of farms and some accommodation. Here the Coast-to-Coast route is crossed by the Cumbrian Way.
The Langstrath Country Inn provides excellent Borrowdale hotel accommodation, set in the jaws of the Langstrath valley in the quiet unspoilt Lakeland village of Stonethwaite. The Langstrath, a small local family run haven for walkers and lovers of the countryside, was built around 1590 as a miners cottage and has over the years been converted and extended to what it is today. Our ensuite rooms are comfortably furnished and decorated in a simple, unfussy style. All rooms have tea/coffee facilities, clock/radio, hairdryer and also Wi-FiDownstairs, there is a spacious residents lounge with open fire, as well as a cosy bar where residents and locals alike share tales of the days Lake District adventure.
