The deep, winding valley of Borrowdale, with its level green meadows and steep slopes clad in oak woodland is set among rugged ‘fells’ in the wild heart of the Lake District, and is deservedly a magnet for walkers. Upper Borrowdale forms a single parish, but contains a number of separate hamlets - Rosthwaite, Stonethwaite, Longthwaite and Seatoller, each of which has a couple of farms and some accommodation. Here the Coast to Coast route is crossed by the Cumbria Way.
A purpose built Hostel of Canadian Red Cedar Wood in an extensive and peaceful riverside setting within the beautiful Borrowdale valley. Also offer camping and mirco pods. Dogs are accepted if you are camping or in pods only.

The Royal Oak is a small, family-run hotel, ideally situated beyond the “Jaws of Borrowdale”, six miles south of Keswick. Once an 18th Century farmhouse and former miners' tavern, the Royal Oak has been providing accommodation for visitors and walkers for over one hundred years. It has been run by the same family since 1970 and is still the perfect base from which to explore the beauty of the northern Lake District. As traditional hotels have become increasingly rare, we take great pride in maintaining our homely atmosphere and excellent value for money. Thick walls, snug bar and sitting room with open fire all add to the hotel’s cosy character.
