Osmotherley is undoubtedly one of the most attractive villages on the route. For some reason Wainwright omitted Osmotherley from his walk, preferring to take a slightly longer route through the less attractive village of Ingleby Cross. Osmotherley’s two streets of houses and cottages are built of the local buff-coloured sandstone. There are pubs, shops and cafés. Some may like to rest a day here - close by is Mount Grace Priory, a Carthusian foundation dating from 1398 and still in use.
An 18th century stone inn, overlooking the market cross of Osmotherley, gateway to the Moors. A village as unspoilt as any in the North York Moors National Park. Inside you will find a cosy, welcoming atmosphere enhanced by candlelit tables and flowers on the window sills. The old pew benches and white stone walls are matched with soft cushions and delightful murals that follow the seasons. We have 7 en-suite bedrooms, all with their own walk-in wet rooms, each tastefully decorated in harmonious hues. Dogs are welcome both in the bedrooms and the restaurant.
