Askrigg is perhaps most familiar to many as the location for many scenes in the TV series ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. The former main road from Richmond to Lancaster used to pass this way but now, Askrigg has been left as a quiet backwater. The church dates from the 15th century, while attractive houses from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries make its winding streets a delight to explore. At the height of its prosperity it was a centre for lead mining and wool.
The White Rose Hotel and Restaurant in the north Yorkshire Dales, formerly a 19th century residence, has been carefully and sympathetically refurbished to create a family-run hotel. Our tastefully designed and equipped traditional Yorkshire bar provides a perfect setting for our professionally prepared and cooked light snacks, bar meals and of course real ales. The bedrooms have been comfortably furnished with most retaining the original fireplaces and panelled window shutters.
