Stanway

Stanway is a village of thatch-roofed stone cottages. The war memorial shows St George slaying the dragon, and there is a 14th century tithe barn. The Manor House has a very striking 17th century, three-storeyed gatehouse, the work of local Cotswold stone masons. JM Barrie, writer of ‘Peter Pan’, used to stay here, and it is said that moonlight shining on to bedroom wall gave him the idea of Tinkerbell, the fairy. He designed the thatched cricket pavilion standing on staddle stones.
