Sedbergh stands at the gateway to the Lake District, at the foot of the Howgill Fells. The village and the fells make an excellent diversion from the Dales Way. There is a broad main street with alleys leading off it, containing some wonderful old houses, including one in Weaver’s Yard where an old house contains the massive chimney where Bonnie Prince Charlie is claimed to have hidden in 1745. Like Dent, Sedbergh grew rich on the wool trade and you’ll find campsites, B&B and hotel accommodation.

The Dalesman Country Inn, Sedbergh has been a family run inn for over thirty years, reserving its feel of a 16th century coaching inn, whilst boasting a slight underlying feel of the modern country inn style. Traditional stonework and real oak beams dominate the low ceilings with warm colours coming through from the carpets and curtains. The feel of a traditional country inn is enhanced with local paintings of the area by local artists. We have nine letting rooms in total, three of which have a touch of something special, five standard rooms of which three are on the more budget friendly side. All our food is fresh, seasonal and local. When we say local, we really do mean it. Our beef, lamb and pork all come from our own stock less than 1 mile from the inn.
