Housesteads is the location of one of Britain’s best-preserved Roman Forts, and is the most famous fort complex along the Hadrian’s Wall trail. There is a museum and car park. The fort has remnants of barracks, latrines, hospital and food storage granaries.
The Old Repeater Station is a large detached stone building near the most scenic part of Hadrian's Wall and offers 3 star Visit Britain rated guest accommodation. The property makes extensive use of eco / green technology including geothermal heating and wood burning stoves. Our water comes from a private source for domestic usage and also heats the building via a ground source heat pump. the property is just 200 yards from Hadrian's Wall and provides an excellent base to explore the beautiful scenery and historic sites of Northumberland. Drivers can leave their car here if preferred to visit sites along the Wall. The Hadrian's Wall bus service which calls at all the main Roman sites passes the front door.
