Comments by walkers who stayed at Royal Oak Inn in Bowness and Windermere on The Dales Way
This was the last inn on the Dales Way that we stayed at the evening of June 29, 2016. The staff were very friendly and had even brought our suitcase up to our room.

There is absolutely no problem with the staff, as I say they were all very helpful and friendly, however, the ensuite in our room was so tiny you had to stand up to wipe your self!! The toilet was between the wall and the shower stall and it was only about 18 inches wide!!

I think I would think twice about staying there again, unless of course they have bigger bathrooms!

We stayed two nights, having completed the Dales Way. I had requested a twin room, and the booking paperwork confirmed this, but in the event we given a small double room with a rather small double bed - we were told this was an upgrade. The bathroom was perfectly adequate, and the staff were very friendly. We ate in the hotel both nights, and the food was fine. Breakfast is served from 8.30am, but as we had to catch a train before 9.00am, the staff were happy to give us an earlier breakfast, which was appreciated.

The Royal Oak is the official end of the Dales Way and it is a great place to stay at the end of the walk. Our room was lovely, table laid in the window ready for breakfast in our room. Huge bed, big TV. Modern, classy decor. Ensuite shower room is snug but spotless. If the door was hung the opposite side it would make entering and exiting the room somewhat easier! A minor issue. Good views from the front rooms, good pub grub and beer. Breakfast in our room WAS special, would really recommend it as a self congratulatory treat! Well done Royal Oak, pub B&Bs are not always this good!

Stayed here July 09. Extremely well located for the end of the walk - down the hill and you're there. Little bit old fashioned and basic room but friendly and lively. We needed to leave early to catch a train home and they arranged our breakfast early without any fuss. Perfectly good pub food and some very good beer. Not at all noisy after pub had closed. Good night's sleep.

It was great to see this pub right on the path as we approached the lakeside, with a sign welcoming Dales Way walkers displayed prominently over the street. We had an attractive and comfortable small room, and the breakfast was generous and tasty. The location was ideal for enjoying some free time in Bowness, and we were able to toast the end of a successful trip with some good quality real ale and wine in the bar.
