Nice room, clean and comfortable. Evening meal menu was typical pub fayre, large portions, quickly cooked. The breakfast was very good, cereals and yogurts and a very nice cooked breakfast. Friendly owner, very attentive. Would recommend.

The Landlord was great, very helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable and food tasty and beer good. We had a day off from here and caught the mini bus to the North Yorks Moors railway and caught the steam train to Pickering and then on to Whitby - great day.

Stay here.
Nice landlord who carries your bag to your room. Just ideal after a long day.
Have an evening meal her, plenty of variety and real ale

Arrived early afternoon and although kitchen was being re furbished all stops were pulled out to provide plates of sandwiches and a good bowl of salad. If you have walked from Blakey Ridge this is only a short day and worth catching a train on a scenic route into Whitby. We had a fun afternoon (change from walking!) and ate at the Magpie Cafe (renowned fish restaurant) and got back in time to join other C2C's for drinks in the bar .Pub has recently been saved from closure and although minor teething problems the new owners are trying hard to get things right so please support.Stayed 9th July

Disappointed that despite calling in at lunchtime to make arrangements to be collected at Grosmont later that day there was no pickup service available. The following day we had to arrange a taxi to take us to Grosmont as no drop off service was offered. Had to wait 25 minutes for hot food to appear at breakfast although it had been booked 8am.

A nice enough place to stay after a really wet day across the North York Moors. The only problem we had in our fairly small twin room was deciding what to do with all of the wet gear, a drying room would be a good idea. Good evening meals and a nice breakfast.

Our double en suite room was clean and comfortable and ideal for what we needed.

The food in the evening was excellent, one of the best on the C2C - breakfast was good too.

The landlord has only recently taken over (6 months) and has done a lot of work to make the pub a place to stay for C2Cers. A good effort.

busy pub at the side of the village green.
the landlord has just taken over and started to improve the place.
our room was clean but tiny, just big enough for 2 blokes. but there wasnt room for bags & rucksacks.
good range of traditional pub grub at the usual prices.
good breakfast and packed lunch.
maybe worth staying at a b&b until this place has been
