Long Distance Walking

Long distance walking tours can be one of the most relaxing and rewarding ways of discovering some of the most beautiful locations in Britain, and a great way to spend your holidays.
The Sherpa Van Project offers a door to door baggage moving service on many of Britain's long distance walking trails, so that you can take the weight off your shoulders and enjoy the countryside without a heavy pack. We will move your bags for you, door to door, from hotels, B&Bs or campsites along the many and varied long distance walking trails.

The countryside and the history of Britain comes alive on the long distance walking trails which bring alive the descriptions of writers like Wordsworth and Thomas Hardy. You may visit places where Roman legions marched and fierce battles were waged. Dramatic scenery, castles, historic
churches nestled amongst wild flowers, sleepy villages: these are all integral parts of long distance walking trails in Britain.

The Sherpa Van offers a support service on many of Britain’s long distance trails. In the north, the West Highland Way follows a long distance walking trail into the magnificent countryside of the Highlands of Scotland following most of Scotland's most famous footpath on its course from the south of Loch Lomond to Fort William and Ben Nevis. Along the way your long distance walking adventure passes historic ruins, country inns and spectacular glaciated valleys.

St Cuthbert's Way is a recently established long distance walking trail which links places associated with St Cuthbert, an important figure in the spread of Christianity from Scotland to England in the 7th century A.D. Alternatively, for long distance walking in The Lake District there is the Cumbria Way which takes you through England's most rugged and mountainous landscape, the Lake District National Park, celebrated by the poetry of Wordsworth and more recently by Beatrix Potter. The long distance walking trail leads past the peaceful depths of Coniston Water and Derwentwater, two of the prettiest lakes, as well as the incomparable Tarn Hows.

For a major long distance walking experience, the Coast to Coast walk starts on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria near the huge red sandstone cliffs of St. Bees Head, crosses three National Parks before reaching the North Sea at the pretty fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay on the rocky coastline of the North York Moors.

Other long distance walking trails include the Cotswolds Way, an entrancing mixture of historic places, parkland, cultivated fields with dry-stone walls, and patches of unspoilt woodland, and in The Yorkshire Dales, with its picturesque villages and hamlets and idyllic pastoral landscape of green valleys, there is the Dales Way and the Herriot Way to choose from.
