 About Kings House

A most desolate stretch along the way! But not without its charms, the spatial panoramas, the clouds streaming across the moor, your nose streaming in the wind and the cold! The trail is pretty good though; there is no chance of you getting off route. Ba Bridge is good for a break and there are interesting waterfalls leading back to deeply cut corries. In the blackened Peat you should see the incongruous bleached roots of the old Caledonian forest that was cut down over the centuries. Eventually you climb around and out of the Black Mount area and see traces of civilisation around by the White Corries ski area and down to the patch of white and green that marks The Kings house Hotel. Towering over this, at the entrance of Glencoe is the majesty of Buaqchaille Etive Mor.

King's House Hotel is in a very remote situation, with magnificent views of the hills, and is the only place to stay at this point. Built in the 17th century, Kings House is believed to be one of Scotland's oldest licensed inns. It was used after the Battle of Culloden (1745), as a barracks for troops of George III, hence the name Kings House. The old building has been altered considerably over the past century and extended to 22 bedrooms, ten with bathrooms en-suite. There is a drying room and laundry. Spectacular views from the picture windows of the residents lounge and a number of the south and west facing bedrooms.
