About Winchester
The pleasant old Saxon capital, with ancient and modern features. Particularly beautiful are the Cathedral Close and the water meadows going down to St. Cross to the Southwest. It is also a busy regional market town (county town of Hampshire) with a good level of services, hotels, B&Bs restaurants, and a bit too much drinking by some of the local populace – pubs abound. There are Good public transport connections, and it is possible to reach London in an hour and even go back to Eastbound in less than three.
