About Wall There is a public telephone here. There is a pub here. There is a public lavatory here.
This village takes its name from the famous monument left here by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, who has also given his name to the village pub. Travellers following the A6079 through Wall on their way to its famous namesake are unable to see its picturesque village green surrounded by quaint houses. Weary Wall walkers, however, are permitted to camp overnight on its northernmost extremity. Most of the Wall has disappeared in this area, but nearby Brunton Turret is a well-preserved stretch. Also nearby on Fallowfield Fell are quarries where stone was taken for the Wall, and where a famous rock inscribed by a soldier of the time was discovered.
