About Bowness on Solway
End at the Kings Arms pub at Ramparts head. The village fits into the area of the Roman fortress called Maia, the second largest fortress on the wall at over 2 hectares. Hadrian’s wall was not so substantial at this marsh end, so a large garrison was needed to stop the Picts from attacking across the firth at Low tide. Some accommodation.
