Attractive Pennine village at head of valley. Originally mill village - still has one working mill. Huddersfield Narrow Canal runs through village. Several pubs, cafes, restaurants and take-aways. Modern Marsden (Pop.1991: 4,256) grew as a focal point of routes crossing the Pennines. Pack horse trails, turnpike roads, canal and railway have all left their mark and you can trace the impact of the industrial revolution both on the ground and on social history, notably the Luddite and Chartist movements.

Marsden became famous for its growing textile trade, resulting in the development of dwelling houses for workers and the social scene of public houses. Established in 1787, The New Inn offers a warm welcome. In the winter the log fire will be lit by the bar. We serve a range of cask ales, and real home cooked food.

Me (Bev) and my partner Simon have run The Carriage House in Marsden for the last 9 years now. We thoroughly enjoy giving satisfaction to our customers old and new, we are surrounded by beautiful countryside of The Yorkshire Pennines. We are open 6 days a week from 5.30pm onwards. On a Saturday night we have our weekly entertainment of Karaoke hosted by Ann. We have a great range of talented and not so talented customers that enjoy the evening after their meal.
