|
Kirkby Malham is blessed with the 'Cathedral of the Dales' - the Church of St Michael the Archangel. Mind your head as you duck through the wrought iron gate.
There is a special welcome for walkers with mucky boots. Hallelujah!
The church is on an ancient site, the village name "Kirkby" being Old Danish "church place", showing it dates at least to Viking times. The present building is 15th century, though the doorway is clearly older. The architecture is wonderful and there are extraordinary treasures; it's a place not to be missed.
