The great Roman fort at Houseteads will take you a mile or so out of your way, but for a real appreciation of the Roman Wall a visit here is essential. The fort is high on the hillside, with fine views of the Northumberland moorlands to north and south. There is a small museum and plenty of supporting information to help you be clear what you are looking at. At Bardon Mill the two brick chimneys of the mill are still standing. The buildings are used as a modern pottery business with a brick bake house.

The Inn is set amongst some of the most breathtaking scenery in England and stands in the shadows of Steel Rigg, without doubt one of the most dramatic parts of Pennine Way & Hadrian's Wall. The Twice Brewed Inn is close to all the main Roman sites - Vindolanda, Housesteads and the Roman Army Museum. Midway between Carlisle and Newcastle. Take the B6318 (millitary Road) which runs alongside Hadriens Wall. The Inn is next to the Twicebrewed infomation centre.
