From the hills you return to tourist territory in Llangollen, a bridging point of the River Dee. For six days in July the Eisteddfod draws choirs, musicians, folk singers and dancers from all over the world. The steam railway station is beside the bridge, and on the hillside is Llangollen Canal and Wharf from where you can take a narrowboat trip to Froncysyllte, with free road transport back. Alternatively, take a 2 hour trip from Froncysyllte to Bryn Howel, making two crossings of the Ponycysyllte Aqueduct - a world heritage site and one of the canal wonders of the world. The canal crosses in an iron trough 1007 feet long and 120 feet up on 18 masonry towers. It was built 190 years ago by Thomas Telford . If you cross in a longboat you`ll be struck by the sheer drop on the non-towpath side. Walk it and you`ll find the towpath suspended over the water with a cast iron handrail. Incidentally, if you`re lucky enough to be here at the right time you`ll find that Froncysyllte boasts one of the world`s greatest male voice choirs. Between Llangollen and Trevor landslips have required the encasing of the canal trough in concrete. At Trevor the canal makes a 90 degree turn.

 Property type: B & B

The Offas Dyke forms the eastern boundary of our land, consequently we are a popular overnight stop for walkers and ramblers. Cloud Hill in Chirk was designed exclusively as a "one of a kind" house for a very demanding client. The final design was the result of a limited submission architectural competition and was constructed and fitted out in approx 1965. We have a large lounge, morning room with TV and Video where breakfast is served. Our three bedrooms are at the rear of the house where it is quiet. 4 miles from Llangollen and the Offas Dyke on A5. We are located on the right hand side of the road within a copse of trees on the A5 travelling towards Llangollen.
