About Appletreewick

This is the first village with real 'Dales' character that you pass; it is a quarter mile off the trail. Being undeniably pretty, with some fine 17th century houses. Even if you are aiming for Burnsall, Appletreewick is worth a detour, if only for a 'cream tea ' if you are here at lunchtime (unlikely if you started the day in Ilkley) there are pubs serving bar meals and Yorkshire beer.

Built in the style of a Canadian timber framed house, Knowles Lodge has spectacular views and overlooks the Dales way as well as the River Wharfe. Accommodation is provided in three luxurious ground-floor bedrooms - each with it's own nearly new bathrooom. There are two doubles and a twin. Breakfast is served round a large gate leg oak table at times to suit our guests. Credit cards are accepted. Children over 7 and dogs are welcome. There are 2 pubs in the village. AA 5 Star. Licensed to hold Civil Wedding Ceremonies.

The Dales Way leaves the Wharfe briefly at Howgill and goes up through a farmyard onto the road. You turn left across the bridge and immediately leftagain into Knowles Lodge's drive.
