About Osmotherley
Old green village, named after “Asmundrelac” Norse for Asmund’s clearing. Famous for its stone clad houses, market cross, and Wesleyan Methodist chapel from 1754. From an agricultural basis the town doubled in population with the advent of the weaving industry (the Youth Hostel at Cote Ghyll was a mill until 1915). There are plenty of B&Bs, a YHA and camping, Post Office and bus services to nearby towns.
