| About Greenhead
|
|
Just before it there is Magnis fort, off to the left of the trail. Greenhead sits in the valley of the Tipalt Burn in the shadow of the Walltown Crags section of Hadrian`s Wall. Greenhead is a hamlet rather than a village, but still manages to offer the visitor a full range of facilities, from food to accommodation of various types, including camping and a Youth Hostel popular with Wall walkers. Nearby are the ruins of Thirlwall Castle, built in the 14th century from Roman stone. The Roman Army Museum is half a mile walk from the village centre.
