This is a small market town of considerable charm and character near the shore of Morecambe Bay, a largely tidal arm of the Irish Sea, which is linked to the town by a short canal, now disused. Many features of historical interest are preserved in the town, most notably the cobbled market square and surrounding narrow streets;
there are also reminders of the former textile milling industry. Tourism has begun to make its mark on Ulverston with shops serving hikers and bikers and the Laurel and Hardy Museum but not obtrusively so. There is a famous brewery located in Ulverston and the local brew is widely available in south Cumbria. There is a tourist centre (Tel. 01229 587120)

The Walkers Hostel

The Walkers Hostel is ideally suited for long and short walks. We are happy to give advice on how to get the most from your visit. Ulverston is an old market town with plenty of good pubs. The Cumbria Way starts at Ulverston and there are street markets on Thursdays and Saturdays as well as other attractions. The lighthouse on Hoad Hill is a famous land mark.
On the edge of the Lake District, the Walkers Hostel has 30 beds with between 2 and 8 beds to a room with a family room available if required and bedding is included. There are male and female shower rooms but bring your own towels. £16.50 per person per night including light breakfast.
Cooked breakfast £3.50, evening meals £4.50 Please book in advance. Accommodation for either
long weekends, mid week and full week bookings.
"Park and Drop off" service available for people undertaking the Cumbria Way. We can park guests cars at the Hostel and then collect the guests from Carlisle and return them to their cars in Ulverston.
