The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District’s renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater. Those who are content with gentle rambling or just lazing on restful lawns fringed by trees amidst imposing scenery will be equally happy staying here.

Once an 18th Century farmhouse, our hotel has been accommodating visitors and walkers for over one hundred years, and is still the perfect base from which to explore the beauty of the northern Lake District. As traditional hotels have become increasingly rare, we take great pride in maintaining our homely atmosphere and excellent value for money. Although modernised with central heating, the thick walls, snug bar and sitting room with open fire retain the hotels cosy character.The main house offers eight ensuite and three standard rooms each with individual charm, while across the courtyard are a converted barn annex, Merrybreeches, provides an additional four spacious ensuite rooms each with peaceful riverside views. Small,friendly, family-run, in the centre of the village, this traditional hotel offers comfortable rooms and lounges, a cosy bar and good home cooking. All prices include an evening meal which is served at 7 pm. We make a 2% charge for the use of a Credit Card - Debit Cards no charge.

Yew Craggs is a traditional Lakeland B&B, completely refurbished in 2011, which offers comfortable accommodation close to the centre of the delightful hamlet of Rosthwaite.
