Operating as a hostel since the 1930's, Thorney How was the first YHA Demonstration Hostel in 1932 it has since re-opened in 2011 as an independent hostel offering family owned and run Visit England 3 star graded hostel B&B accommodation in Grasmere, the heart of the Lake District.
We are now offering £49.50 per person for a private double. This includes, dinner, breakfast, packed lunch and a towel.
For individuals in shared or multi room bookings this would be priced £45.50 per person.
A regular and long standing provider for Coast to Coast walkers, being directly on the route (no time lost for your morning start) and providing all that you need, from the drying room to comfortable beds and an evening meal with a drink from the bar. The flexible accommodation can cater for individual bookings, family rooms, small groups and large groups. Please note that during Spring 2013 our accommodation will see some changes including new showers. We expect to have a couple of ensuite double rooms available as well as our standard 4 and 6 bunk family or small group bunk bed type rooms. Additional Glamping accommodation may also be ready. Please call to check availability.
Dogs are welcome to stay in our dedicated four legged guests kennel, but are not invited to come into the accommodation. For small group single night weekend bookings we prefer to allocate beds in our larger dorm rooms. Towels are provided with a small charge.
We are now offering some camping barn type accommodation at £8.50 per bed, occupants to provide own bedding. Meals can be ordered additionally.

Grasmere Independent Hostel – A four star hostel in a five star location
Situated on a farm our VisitEngland 4 star graded hostel is on the Coast to Coast route in Grasmere. Flanked on all sides by the fells, the picturesque village is a short stroll and a traditional Lakeland Inn is only 400 yards away
The Hostel sleeps a maximum of 24 in 5 en suite bedrooms, each sleeping from 3 to 6 people, with fully made up beds, lockers, bedside lights and towels for hire. We also offer free WiFi, an Internet PC, coin operated sauna, commercial laundry, large drying room with dehumidifiers and heating, dining room, 2 self-catering fully equipped kitchens. There is a common room with stunning views through our feature round window, along with a large LCD TV and DVD.
We can also provide a continental style breakfast and a selection of ‘ready’ meals for you to prepare in our kitchens (advance booking required).
On site we also have a lockable bike / luggage store, private parking and an outdoor sitting and barbeque area.
