This cosy Lake District B & B dates from the early 18th Century and was recently refurbished by the new owner. Dogs are especially welcome. Evening meals available at The Crown and Mitre just a short walk away. For Coast to Coasters the situation saves the three mile uphill struggle to Shap, thus shortening the hardest day of the walk.

A warm welcome awaits you by owners Christine and Martyn Knight. Christine is a trained Cordon Bleu cook and delights in sourcing local Cumbrian produce for her catering. Whenever possible, breakfast will be served on the delightful south facing terrace with the wonderful view of the sheep grazing on the surrounding fell. This is a traditional country Inn, in whitewashed stone with great atmosphere and a sense of history. The majority of our bedrooms have now been refurbished, with the addition of new beds, furniture, soft furnishings, flat screen TV's and DVD players, tea and coffee and bottled water available. We have added a second chef to our staff and they are cooking seven nights a week and we are offering a mix of meat, fish and game and an extended vegetarian menu, with great deserts, good wines and a range of cask and keg beers. The restaurant, bar and public rooms are completely refurbished. We have added a bike store, additional drying room and outside seating. Guided tours from Patterdale to the Crown and Mitre available @ £75. .
