This pretty moorland village at the head of the Allen Valley was a leading lead mining centre during the 19th century. The Allenheads Heritage Centre depicts the story of the lead industry in this area. This friendly little hamlet, almost hidden by pine trees is no longer surrounded in slag heaps and shrouded in smog, instead it welcomes you with it`s babbling beck and good places to eat and rest. To eat in Allenheads there is a cafe, as well as The Allenheads Inn. There are various B+Bs in Allenheads, The Allenheads Lodge Outdoor Centre provides dormitory accommodation.

An 18th Century Village Inn offering five ales and big helpings of tasty food. A must for cyclists and walkers who enjoy atmosphere, hospitality and all round comfort. Seven letting rooms sleeping a total of 17. Extra put up beds can be used if one large party. All rooms are ensuite @ £30 per person which includes full English breakfast. Lock up garage for bikes. Drying area for clothes. Single occupancy restricted during the busy season. Due to the volume of cyclists and walkers passing through during the busy season, it is essential that large parties book evening meals at the Inn in advance as over 70 can all turn up at the time time to eat!
