| About Longtown
Longtown is a lovely village in the Olchon Valley. The 12th century castle with its unusual cylindrical keep was built to protect Ewyas Lacey, later Longtown, from the Welsh raiders. It`s a striking example of a motte and bailey castle. Here you can clearly see how the motte acted as a watchtower and how the bailey, the inner surrounding area, contained the living quarters for the owner`s family, servants and livestock.
Broome`s Garden, close to the castle, is called Longtown`s village pride; it has been created by local volunteers, and its is open for the quiet relaxation of both the community and its visitors.
