Comments by walkers who stayed at Riverside Hotel in Ilkley on The Dales Way

Great riverside location near the start of the Dales Way which we walked in Sep 2016. Easy walking distance with our luggage from the station.

The staff was friendly. Food was good & reasonably priced. It was warm enough for us to eat supper outside on the terrace. We shared a good pizza with calamari as a starter. Breakfast was very good.

Only downside as that our bedroom was rather small & cramped so tough to layout our suitcases.

Excellent location. Staff very helpful but twin room was a bit small. Steak & Kidney pie was very tasty and good value.

My husband and I stayed at the Riverside Hotel on June 21, 2016 to start the Dales Way walk. Conveniently located at the start of the walk, everything was very comfortable. Would recommend to others.

This first stop on the Dales Way was delightful. The pub is family-owned and run. Christine is the owner-manager and she welcomes guests to the pub & inn with warmth and a commitment to making sure everything is attractive, comfortable, tasty, on-time, Our room had a view into the side garden. Along the river-front there is a walking path, and nearby there's a playground and dog park. The town of Ilkley is vibrant and interesting. Go to the little museum at the church if you can. It shows the area's history from before the Roman settlement. We had both our evening meals at the pub, among clusters of local people who asked about our planned walk. I ordered steak, mushroom and guiness pie and it was delicious. Sit and watch the locals, and watch the inn-keepers - they're working hard behind the scenes, and their dedication is clearly evident. What a great way to start our long walk.

Stayed the night before starting the way (April 5th). Ideal location right on the walk. En-suite room perfectly satisfactory. We chose to walk into Ilkley to sample another restaurant ( and a pub or two!) in the evening but breakfast was a good start the next morning. Friendly staff and a warm welcome.

Riverside in an excellent location - had a gentle stroll in readiness for start of Dales Way the next day. Friendly welcome - comfortable ensuite room. Wonderful to be able to leave our car at the Hotel and return to collect it via the sherpavan at the end of the walk.

We stayed in September 2010. The staff were very helpful and the hotel is right next to the start of the walk. Found the rooms a good size and comfortable.
It was really convenient to be able to leave our car for the week (15). Food is basic but the fish and chips are good.

Smallish room over a quite busy pub but very convenient for the start of the walk and we left the car here for 15. Recommended.

We thought that Riverside Hotel was really rather mediocre with the accommodation, food and service! Also considering that this was the most expensive place that we stayed - we were rather disappointed!
However they did allow us to leave our car there for the week (15 Pounds) so we were grateful for that.

We began here and thoroughly enjoyed it! Can be a lively or quiet beginning to your trek as it offers both options. Lovely landlady and staff. Thanks!

avoid like the plague. Terrible place to stay. rooms bad and breakfast was made up of the cheapest food they could find. On the other hand the fish & chips outside on the way home were great

Room booked back in Nov/Dec 2008 for night of 6th June 2009.No acknowledgement received for booking so phoned Hotel and spoke to woman who confirmed everything OK.Cheque for 30 re Deposit taken out of my Bank a/c a few days later.Arrived on 6th June to be advised that no record of booking and Hotel was full!! Imagine shock of receiving this news on very first day of holiday. To be fair to the owner she did find us alternative accommodation at another hotel in Ilkley and also refunded my deposit of 30.Not very impressed and if you book here I would recommend that you get the name of the person dealing with the booking.

A really great place to start. Helpful, friendly and solid fuel to get you going!

The room we had here was tiny, so re-organising our suitcases and rucksacks before we set out on our walk was somewhat awkward. However, the room was well furnished with a decent ensuite (with shower), and the breakfast was good. We had fish and chips in the evening from the hotel's riverside 'kabin', which we ate while watching the ducks - a nice relaxing prelude to the exertions of the Dales Way walk.

We stayed at the Riverside Hotel on our first night - even though we hadn't walked anywhere other than from the car park! This hotel is in a lovely setting, literally at the start of the Dales Way. The beer selection is fab and the owners, mum and son, are very welcoming. So much so in fact that prior to setting off for the first stage of our walk, we booked ourselves in for a week later, so that we could finish our hols in style! The owners kindly let us leave our car in their car park whilst we completed the walk. The rooms are all en-suite, clean, bright and with good facilities. Great atmosphere in the bar. Recommended!

Although not cheap for a single room, the location was so lovely I'm glad I chose it - went for cheaper options the next couple of nights to compensate!

The Riverside is a little pricey - 45 for a single room - however the room was comfortable and the staff all very friendly. The location is perfect - on the river, right at the start of the walk - would stay again

The Riverside's biggest advantage is the location at the beginning of the Dalesway and on the river. I thought the price (45 for one person for one night on 5 May 2006) a touch high and will opt for a b & b in Ilkley next time. A very comfortable room.

In Ilkley we stayed at the Riverside Hotel. THE smokiest drinking/eating environment in the Dales area. Ordinary food and about 50 pounds/couple. Friendly staff.
