Comfortable and friendly. 70s time capsule.

Not a good stop over. the bathroom was mouldy; wallpaper hung off the wall in streamers; there was no hot water and the loo didn't flush. the bar was dirty, with sticky tables and the food was not good.
We would not go back

Good first night stop. Food & drink good & reasonably priced. John was very friendly & most helpful. Very good value for the money.

John was great. Not only did he tie his chef to the kitchen and make him wait until we returned to the hotel, he also helped us out by ringing our next accomodation when we were up a mountain and running 'just a tad' late the next day.

What a lovely man that runs this place - really friendly atmopshere in the bar in the evening. Room was clean and comfortable - the bathroom was in drastic need of a redecoration job but all in all, a place not pretending to be any more than it was and a great first night if you want to avoid doing what everone else seems to do ie plough on to Ennerdale Bridge.

The owner can pick u up from either Cleator or Ennderdale Bridge & take you back which is good. The Hotel is need of a facelift inside & smell of cigeratte smoke in Hall & room. The room was nice. Food & Beer good at resonable prices. As we were going a short walk to Kirkland the next day we decline the lift & walked on the cycle track behind the Hotel which was a disused Railway to Moor Row to pick up track to Cleator then back on c2c route. - 6/10
