Comments by walkers who stayed at Old Dungeon Ghyll in Great Langdale on The Cumbrian Way

Have visited the Lake District many times and have always wanted to stay at this hotel. The Cumbria Way Walk seemed an opportune time.

It was great to arrive at the Climbers' bar and be able to walk in with boots on and have a refreshing drink at the end of the day - Old Peculiar welcomed by other half.

Friendly check in then up to room for shower. Relaxed in the guest lounge before having an enjoyable meal in the Resident's Bar - Salmon in chilli sauce and Game Pie.

Breakfasts usually start at 8.30 a.m. but staff very accommodating about our arriving at 8.15a.m. There was a large group staying at the same time and we were concerned about this delaying our start time.

Staff friendly and helpful at all times.

Pleasant rooms and clean but had hoped for more. Breakfast was a very dower affair with the waitresses unable to smile.

We'd looked forward to this place - but sad to say that much of the other feedback proved to be correct.
Staff unwelcoming. Rooms clean and tidy but small. Noise from the pub intrusive in the later evening. Good food.
Overall - very poor value for money. Seems to think it is a hotel when really it's really a hostel in a good location. We won't be going back.

Seems to have been done up recently - nice bathrooms. It is pricey but the location is stunning.

The bar sells excellent beer and reasonable food but it it uncomfortable sitting for long periods.

Not a bad place if you are NOT on a budget.

The beer was flat, the glasses were dirty. The barstaff were ok but not welcoming. I have been coming here for years ,but this year the atmosphere was so bad we went to the Stickle Barn and had a great time.

We felt the accommodation to be overpriced, considering the poor state of decoration of the hotel. The premises would benefit from a thorough refurbishment.

The staff were not particularly welcoming.

The hotel web site is deceptively good, leading guests to expect a rather more pollished establishment.

We felt the hotel was living on its' reputation - the rooms are 'quaint' - but over-priced for quaint.
And the staff at breakfast were downright rude...
Wish they'd get rid of that strip-lighting in the Hikers bar as well.....
