| I have stayed with Gary and Cath on a couple of previous walking trips (C2C, Herriot Way). On this occasion I was walking Wainwrights Pennine Journey. However since my last stay they have been busy with improvements. Gary has now created extra accommodation, but he has managed to retain all of the previous Birkdale charm, which includes the most comfortable beds, log fires and excellent food. This really is a unique place to stay whatever your walk and I look forward to my next visit - possibly walking the 'End to End' | |

| Little Birkdale is different! When we arrived, Gary and Catherine ushered us into a small self-catering kitchen. It looked OK, as we knew we'd to heat up our supper there. Then, through the door, we caught sight of the large comfy sofas in front of fiery woodburning stove. What, all this lounge just for us?! Upstairs was a large bedroom with a very comfy bed and a bathroom with loads of hot water. The wind howled around us all night but we were very cosy indeed. We would certainly recommend treating yourself to Little Birkdale. Gary or Catherine will give you a lift from/to Keld. Their guest book says it all, though most walkers staying there are doing the C2C. Obviously, you would want to walk further than Tan Hill the next day, so if you can't make it to Middleton, we would highly recommend Wemmergill Hall Farm, a mile off the Way on the B6276 | |
