Comments by walkers who stayed at Kings Head Hotel in Great Ayton on The Cleveland Way

The Kings Head is a winner. Lovely bedrooms..great dining, At first it may seem a little far of the track but it is worth the extra mile especially if you wish to climb Rosebery Topping. You can walk around the perimeter of Rosebery Topping in the morning. Highly recommended.

Stayed on a Saturday night. Superb view of Roseberry Topping, with the glow of satisfaction at just having climbed it! Bedroom excellent, as was bathroom. Room well away from the fairly busy road, and very quiet. Great deal at 99 for the two of us including dinner and half bottle of wine. Despite very busy August Sat night, service in restaurant speedy and food very good. Breakfast next morning very good - plenty of choice - we had kippers. Only downside was female guest who gave her hubby a half hour diatribe of his failings at 6am! Not the hotel's fault - they were apologetic.

Stayed at the Kings Head in June, had a great welcome, our rooms were spotlessly clean, we ate in the restaurant ( don't forget to book ) & had a great meal. Breakfast too was good.

The hotel is excellently situated, with lovely views towards Roseberry Topping. Very luxurious facilities. This is probably the best B & B we have stayed at on our walking holidays, Highly recommended.

Warm and comfortable accommodation on a wet evening. Great meal in the restaurant. Our room was a good size but felt quite cluttered but spacious bathroom.
Staff were friendly and welcoming.
I wouldn't say it was 'on route'. Probably about a mile to rejoin the Cleveland Way.

Stayed July 31st 2010. Lovely hotel and decent restaurant. Very busy being a Saturday with birthday parties in the restaurant and wedding guests staying in the hotel so not our quietest night! However the room was comfortable and welcoming staff greeted us after a long and at times wet day. Probably not the cheapest place to stay in the area but good value and right under Roseberry Topping though it does mean a climb back around it to regain the Cleveland way.
