| Ignore all the old critical comments about this lovely pub. It's been under new management for 12 months. It was clean and very welcoming, and the food was excellent. Unfortunately, as an old but attractive estate owned pub, it does suffer from a lack of en-suite facilities - more than made up for by the presence of proper bath rooms and the opportunity of a good soak! Well worth the extra 2 miles walk from Glaisdale | |

| We were welcomed on our arrival and shown straight to our room. We enjoyed the Pub in the evening and had a great nights sleep. Carol even let us have our breakfast a little early as we had a long walk the next day. We enjoyed our stay here (May 2011) | |

| Stayed end of September 2010. If your looking for a warm cosy stay after a hard days walk, then this isn't the place for you. The en suite double felt damp, as did the bed. This was definately the worst accommodation we had on the c to c. This property needs some serious investment to bring if anywhere near to being acceptable, £70 was a joke! we had some outstanding accommodation for that amount of money. Had we had transport we would not have stayed. | |

| We arrived, after 21 miles, to find pub closed (at 5.00 in early September: probably close on peak time for passing travellers in need of refreshment!). Our friends, who were staying, were told that she would serve them and us after she had finished her tea. “When might that be?” “When I’m finished”. We waited half an hour and no sign of service. She said she doesn’t have much time to herself: well she’s certainly going the right way to ensure that she has a very large about of time to herself. In any event presumably in the winter months she hardly has the continual irritation of customers. It looked like a charming place but unless you are masochistic don’t give it the benefit of your custom. There were numerous other walkers also being turned away so it wasn’t as if she didn’t like us specifically. | |

| Found the front door locked against us as we arrived at 5.30 after a 20 mile walk. After ringing the door bell, phoning and knocking we were eventually admitted by a very grumpy woman. Not very welcoming! However the bar had great ambience and good food. | |

| Stayed here night of Sat 17th July. This hotel/ pub is situated in a lovely area of the village with a large garden at the front. This was probably a lovely establishment 20 yrs ago but unfortunately not now. Our double ensuite room was tired and shabby, dust on picture rail, skirting boards and at least 10 yrs worth of dust and cobwebs behind the wall mounted heater. Carpet was filthy and no attempt had been made to vacuum under the furniture. The portable tv was at least 20 yrs old and had 2 buttons missing. Mould and rust in the ensuite. The only 2 good things about this place are the evening meals and breakfasts. If you value accommodation over food stay somewhere else.Even walk a couple of extra miles to Grosmont. | |

| Stayed here in early May 2010 on our C2C walk because the desirable places in Glaisdale were already booked. The additional 30 minutes or so were a bit challenging at the end of the long day (including negotiating the medieval stone path through the woods from Glaisdale) but we were glad we came. The hotel is charming, the food excellent, and service impeccable. Agree that the rooms are small and old (the floor in our room wasn't level!) but that is part of the charm of an old pub hotel, and the room was clean and warm on a wet night. Recommended over much in Glaisdale. | |

| This was definitely our favourite stay- it is fantastic and in a lovely setting. The owners were really friendly and we had a lovely room with great views. The evening meal was excellent as was the breakfast. Would definitely recommend staying here rather than going onto Grosmont. | |

| We will definitely return here sometime as we loved the place for the high standard of food, the beer and the fact that the hosts were so welcoming.This more than makes up for the rooms being in need of a bit of redecoration. Everywhere was clean, the rooms warm, the showers piping hot (the communal bath very deep!) and our two meals here were really delicious! Breakfasts were huge and tasty.....would recommend that walkers do the walk to High Hawsker and then come back here for second night........it's worth it. The walk into Robin Hood's Bay is less of a trek on the last day, and for the indulgent, you could return here for a third night! Room 5 is lovely. | |
