Comments by walkers who stayed at Holly Lodge in Bowness and Windermere on The Dales Way

A good place to stay and close to the railway station if you are travelling home by train. If you cannot face the walk up from the pier, there is a frequent bus service. The inside has recently been refurbished and our room was of a very good standard. There is plentry of choice nearby for dinner.

Holly Lodge has new owners this year. They have clearly spent a lot on refurbishing and new matching furnishings. They are still finding their feet and getting organised. The previous owners did not appear to have left our booking details nor our deposit, but Diane immediatley accepted I had paid without any argument and took the loss herself. It is an extra mile from end of walk, but very convenient for station, so if Sherpa is taking your bags a good place to stay. Good restaurants close by. Support them in their new venture.

We had an enjoyable stay in clean and comfortable accommodation. Whilst this is a short walk uphill (or even shorter bus ride from the pier at Bowness!), it is well located for all of the ameneties of the town of Windermere. In particular next door is one of the best restaurants (Jerichos) which is an ideal place for your celebratory meal.

A well organised and pleasant B and B. Breakfast was served efficiently and was good. Room was comfortable and clean although being in the top of the house was a bit of a nightmare for anyone tall!!! I managed to hit my head 4 times and on only one of these occasions was the beer to blame! Very friendly and welcoming hosts and allowed me to play old piano.
Well situated for various pubs and restaurants.

A warm welcome at the end of a wonderful holiday. Our room was cosy but spacious with a comfortable bed. There's an informal, relaxed atmosphere in Holly Lodge; we felt at home and sorry not to be staying longer.

Highly recommended and wonderfully close to the railway.
Barry & Anne very kindly let us leave our luggage for a few hours while we climbed Orrest Head for a final fix of Cumbrian air and exercise before the long journey back south.

Most friendly and most professional, so that we felt welcome and were very comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent.

We were surprised to find we had to walk an extra mile or so uphill after completing the Dales Way.....but it was worth it! Barry made us so welcome. He pointed us in the right direction for a lovely evening meal in Windermere, much better than going back down to Bowness! The following day we enjoyed Anne's cooking; a great breakfast. They were both good company to talk to and offered to look after our bags and boots etc. until later in the day.
All in all a very good stay, and we will definately use Holly Lodge again when we visit Windermere.

If you are leaving by train or sherpa van then this place is very handy. It is also very good. Barry is so helpful and experienced with Dales Way walkers that he doesn't even wait to be asked about things like leaving luggage etc. Nothing is too much trouble.

The end of our wonderful Dales way experience was marked by our stay with Barry and Anne. Well worth going the extra mile from Bowness, as the accommodation was ideal for our train journey the following morning. Excellent hosts, large and comfortable rooms and lovely breakfast. Barry recommended the nearby Prince of India restaurant where we enjoyed the excellent cuisine. Highly recommended.

With dozens of B&Bs and hotels around Windermere good reviews here allowed us to select the 6th and final one on the walk. Again a really good location, great hosts who didn't mind us walking up to our room on the top floor in our muddy walking boots! Room and breakfast the following morning were faultless.

Though a bit of a slog from end of Dalesway, very handy for station next day, when you have all your luggage to cope with.
Very comfortable, excellent breakfast, very friendly host - highly recommended.

At the end of the Dales Way the best place to stay. Barry and Anne were very friendly.
Windermere is a pleasant town to stay, calm, much better than Bowness.

A clean and comfortable B&B for the last night. The room was spacious with a good view to the side. Barry was very welcoming and keen to talk about our adventures on the Dales Way. Great location for catching the train.

One of the best places we stayed in. A v. friendly welcome, nice rooms, although ours was a littel cramped, but well decorated and lovely pictures on the walls. Definitely a superb breakfast, with, i would agree, the best marmalade. I personally would have liked to be able to have a bath but it was nice having an en suite.

Definitely to be recommended.

bit of a shock having completed the walk and then realised we had to walk another mile for our accomodation, but well worth the effort! A lovely warm welcome from Barry, comfortable room (though gained a few lumps on the head from the sloping ceiling!). Breakfast very substantial and able to leave rucksacks until train at 14.00, which was great. highly recommended.

We stayed at Holly Lodge in June 2006. While we had a bit of a problem finding it, it was quite worth it. Our hosts provided a very nice environment which we really appreciated at the conclusion of our walk. They helped us to hook up with some friends we met along the way. The marmalade at breakfast was the best we had on our trip. We would highly recommend staying at Holly Lodge.

We stayed two nights at the conclusion of our Dales Way walk in June, 2006. Wonderful accommodations with very gracious and helpful hosts in Ian and Anne. Great breakfasts too.

Although Holly Lodge is located in Windermere proper (not Bowness) and therefore a bit of a walk from the lake it is very close to the train station (useful for the return) and close by several excellent restaurants - ask Ian or Anne for suggestions. Since we used Sherpa Van to move our bags it was handy being so close to the train station when it came to drag our bags along at departure.

I have no hesitation in recommending Holly Lodge to Dales Way walkers or anyone else wishing to enjoy some Lake District hospitality.

A warm welcome and a lot of thoughtful touches make this a B and B we can thoroughly recommend:- the welcoming tea and biscuits on arrival, comfortable lounge with books, convenient location near the station, and the facility to leave our bags for a few hours on our last day before our train left.

Tremendous hospitality! A very well run establishment which hasn't lost the personal touch. A perfect end to our hike on the Dalesway.
Very close to railway station too. We will return! Highly recommended!

From the moment the door opened on our arrival this was our top choice along the Dalesway. Being walkers themselves Anne & Barry know exactly what is needed. It`s location is great with it being away from the noise and bustle of Bowness and only a few minutes walk from the rail station. Not only does it make a great end to the Dalesway but would also make a great base for other walking.
