Fantastic place to stay on the Coast to Coast walk. Robin was a great host and very entertaining, we really enjoyed chatting with him! After staying in a lot of hostels it was a breath of fresh air to stay in such a wonderful and comfortable house and nothing was too much trouble for Rob. I enjoyed a lovely hot bath and breakfast was sensational. We had dinner in the Buck Inn, just a quick 2 mins walk away. Also this was great value - the best yet on the walk. Highly recommended!!!!

This place is not fit to call it's self a B and B, after booking in my son for 1 night. He turned up to be told no room, there's a booking for you at the pub. Who offered a place however was 59.00 per night and not the 35.00. After trying several times to get response from the Mr Smith. When I did get response, I was told no booking was made, even though he told my son he'd been trying to call me all day to tell me! he didn't take my number. After being threaten he was going to come round and then told I'm not worth it, my son should be sleeping rough! oh and I'm a tosser, phone slammed down!

Why are you offering a B & B then?

This was my favourite place that I stayed in on the Coast to Coast walk!
Robin and Jenny were the perfect hosts, they were very friendly and we were welcomed with a lovely pot of tea and cakes.
The room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious.
The local pub was only a few doors down and the landlord was great! (The sticky toffee pudding is recommended!)
Robin proudly showed us the cows, sheep and chickens the following morning (at our request) before taking us back to Clay Bank.
Thanks so much for a perfect stay.

Robin was a entertaining host, and catered for us really well, collecting and delivering us back to Carlton Bank, and cooking a lovely breakfast. The room was comfortable, and the evening meal and service at the Buck Inn a few doors away was very good too.

Well, what can I say? Except that these were one of the best B&B owners we ever met. We stayed with Robin and Jenny July 28th. First of all I was unprepared for the walk over the five or six peaks, up and down and when I saw the last with the Wainstones and one more peak to go, my heart sank. We also got off the path at the stones going left and ended up having to climb up a steep cliff to get back on the trail. We called Robin just as we got to Clay Top Bank and he was waiting for us when we descended. I would not have had the energy to walk to the Forge House from the c2c path and was so happy to see his big smile and Land Rover. He gave us a great welcome in their warm kitchen with tea and cake and we were thoroughly entertained by Robin's stories of his varied previous employment prior to becoming a B&B owner. The house has an unusual history and is on about three levels. We had a great room and private bath as we were the only ones there.

It is only a short walk to the Buck where we had a couple of pints and a nice dinner.

In the morning Robin was cooking our breakfast on his AGA cooker. Starting with fruit and cereal we watched Robin finish off our Full English breakfast, with great touches of cumin and fennel seeds on roasted tomato halves and very well browned sausages, bacon, slowly roasted mushrooms and farm fresh eggs. It was so nice sitting in the kitchen as it was so warm and homey.

Then Robin drove us back to Clay Top Bank to continue on our c2c. We had a wonderful stay, and felt such a great friendship that we even invited them to stay with us in Arizona if they were ever out this way.

Warm welcome with tea and cakes. Extrovert, friendly host. Comfortable room with own bathroom. The Buck provided a pleasant evening meal. Excellent choice of breakfast available.
As we had a short walk to The Lion the next day, we were invited to linger over breakfast, see the two calves being fed and then given a lift up to Clay Bank Top.
An interesting, enjoyable experience.
