Comments by walkers who stayed at Cornlee in Aysgarth-52 on The James Herriot Way
A friend and I stayed in the twin room at Cornlee for the night before and the night at the end of walking the Herriot Way. We are so glad that we'd chosen this B&B for the two nights as it is superb. You won't be disappointed if you stay here whether it's for the one night or more. The accommodation is clean with lots of little touches that raise it above others that you may stay at, and the food is delicious.

There are 3 rooms at Cornlee: a twin and two doubles. We stayed in the twin room. It doesn't have an en suite but does have a private toilet and bathroom along the landing. This wasn't a minus point at all. The owner provides two pristine white cotton robes in the room to use so you don't have to worry about getting / staying dressed to use the bathroom facilities. My friend and I both liked the arrangement of having a bathroom and WC slightly away - gave us more privacy as we aren't a couple, just long-term friends on our first walking holiday. It also allows the bathroom to be spacious. The bedroom, bathroom and WC were all decorated tastefully and were very clean. We had a peek in the other two rooms and they are lovely too (I especially liked the one with the sleigh bed). There are all the things that you'd expect from a B&B in the room such as a television and tea & coffee making facilities.

It's the little things that made Cornlee so lovely to stay at. The host, Jay, was very hospitable and made us feel at home. For example, on our arrival on both days - the first after driving up from Kent & London and the second after finishing our 4-day walk - Jay showed us to our rooms and then provided tea and homemade cake served on china in the dining room. We also had pack lunches provided and I can testify to how nice the homemade cakes were! He provides free milk in a vacuum flask for your tea & coffee, which is so much nicer than pasteurised milk that you often get in hotels and B&Bs. Toiletries and towels are provided. I used the shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion and can say that they smelled lovely. The breakfasts were delicious with lots of choice and Jay uses local produce. I'm a vegetarian, my friend isn't and he catered for both of us. There are lots of books & magazines provided at the B&B about the local area. Jay knows what is around locally and after his advice we went to the pub across from the B&B for dinner and Jay helped by phoning to make our reservations for the two nights we were there.

Beautifully and immaculatly presented. Could not fault this guest house. Warm welcome and very informative. Breakfast menu offering enormouse range. Owner even came out when she saw us arrive back from our walk and offered not only to take our photos but to supply glasses for our champagne!
