Comments by walkers who stayed at Brownber Hall Country House in Newbiggin on Lune on The Coast to Coast Path

Hilary was a great host with a welcoming tea and cake on our arrival. We where then taken to a local restaurant for our evening meal. Great breakfast in the morning. Would highly recommend stopping here.

Outstanding and worth the short detour off the route! Hilary was a fantastic host. Wet gear was whisked away and we relaxed with delicious homemade cake and tea. My room had a shower but Hilary allowed me to have use of a bathroom with a bath. Lounge was huge with a lovely log fire and relaxing background music and loads of interesting books. Hilary took us to a fabulous pub with great food and then picked us up after. Breakfast served in a delightful room and was delicious. I'd recommend anyone to stay here rather than going on to Kirby Stephen.

Our stay at Brownber Hall was outstanding and if you choose to stay here, you won't regret it. Hilary and Drew bent over backwards to ensure we had a wonderful time - a warm welcome, free wifi, luxurious accommodation, stunning house and gardens, and one of best breakfasts on the entire walk. Our hosts even made us a booking at the busy local pub (awesome food) and then drove us and picked us up from the pub! Definitely worth the slight detour off the C2C path, and we wish we could have stayed longer. We would definitely come back for a 5-star B&B stay if ever in the area again!

We stayed here mid May 2011. What a great find. Hilary welcomed us with a pot of tea and home made fruit cake. Our room was cosy and very comfortable. Hilary understands walkers and has a walkers' supper so we didn't have to venture out. After supper we enjoyed an evening by the fire chatting and catching up on emails. (wireless connection)
Because we were walking the C2C Hilary included our packed lunch.
It was easy to re connect with the walk via an unused railway without having to re trace our steps.
We highly recommend a stay here.

We stayed for two nights at this gracious mansion and were the only guests. The hostess drove us to a pub for a lovely evening meal and the owner (of the pub) kindly drove us back. The weather was quite chilly so the landlady turned on the central heat for us and it was very cozy. There was also an electric heater in the well-appointed bathroom. The breakfast was wonderful and a lovely start to our day. On the second night we again had a ride down to the hotel but had to walk back the two miles in the rain. However, as coast to coast walkers this should perhaps have been considered as only a minor inconvenience. Stayed on June 20 and 21.
