Comments by walkers who stayed at Bridge House in Kendal on The Dales Way

A most enjoyable stay where our hosts could not have gone further out of their way to please. Obviously very experienced at B & B, Sheila was more than happy to provide lifts to and from the Way and her knowledge of where to eat locally was excellent. Breakfast included all sorts of home made goodies. This should be your chosen stay for Burneside/Kendal.

A definite place to stay. Sheila picked us up from Burneside (but will do A6 if you want to save a couple of miles) and was most welcoming. Took our very wet clothes for drying and returned them outside the bedroom door the next morning. Good advice on eating at Deja Vu restaurant. Lovely breakfast with home made bread and lemon curd. An impromptu packed lunch was rustled up including delicious tea cake (like a fruit cake, not a toasted tea cake.) Dropped off back to Burneside.

Definitely one to visit again! We were collected from Burneside and made welcome in lovely rooms in this splendid old stationmasters house. Look out for the secret garden! super breakfast!

A warm welcome by Alan & Sheila who gave us tea and cake in their elegant, spacious home.
Breakfast was excellent: home-baked bread, delicious conserves and plentiful fresh fruit salad.
We were grateful for our lift back to the footpath next morning and regretted not accepting their kind offer to pick us up: the two-mile road-walk into Kendal is not the best!

Thanks also for suggesting New Moon for our evening meal: excellent, good-value, friendly service.

The owners had offered to pick us up from the point where the Way crossed the A6, but we were stubborn and did not enjoy the walk into Kendal! (They took us back by car the next day!) But the house was lovely, the room most comfortable, the owners' recommendation of a place to eat that evening excellent and the breakfast very good indeed.

Best place to stay on the whole walk, run by someone who understands walkers. We were picked up and returned to the A6 and had our waterproofs, gaiters etc washed through !.

We were made to feel very welcome - thanks

A lovely place to stay! Breakfast was the best we had on the route - the homemade bread and preserves were excellent.
Shelia is a great host, and kindly drove us to Burneside the next day.
We had a great meal in Kendal at a restaurant called New Moon.

A wonderful house, within easy walking distance to the town with a very competent and friendly proprietor who not only booked our evening meal but also offered to lend us clean underwear and clothes as our bags did not arrive until late (sorry Sherpa, a small blot on an otherwise very efficient service but you are forgiven they did turn up just in time for us to go out for our meal). The en-suite twin room was very well laid out and the beds were comfortable. Although next to the railway line, the trains did not run through the night but do start early morning. An excellent breakfast, including warm home made bread, fruit and a tasty cooked breakfast.
The only reason for not awarding 10/10 for this lovely B + B is the fact that it is three miles from the Dales Way at Burneside. As we were early we caught the bus from Burneside to Kendal but the proprietor had offered to pick us up, so we gave it a score of 9.5/10. Linda and Angela (left 11/08/07).

What a lovely B&B - my favourite along the Dales Way walk!! We got a very friendly welcome from Sheila as soon as she picked us up (exhausted) from Burneside. Great recommendations of places to eat - especially Wilf's cafe in Staveley! Will definitely be back!

After a long days walking, we made just a quick phone call and were grateful when Sheila quickly arrived to collect us from the A6. The house is old, interesting and elegant and our en-suite room was comfortable and well-equipped. After a drink in the friendly local pub just down the road we wandered into the town centre to eat but found that by then most places were fully booked (maybe because it was Saturday) so would recommend eating earlier than usual. A treat to have freshly made bread with breakfast next morning before being driven to where we'd left off the previous day.
