Fascinating old house by a stream - a soothing background noise as you drift off to sleep. The open fire in the sitting room was a very welcome sight on a damp and rather chilly afternoon. Evening meal in the pub a few minutes' walk away. A tasty breakfast (with a good choice of menu) set us up for the walk up the cove over to Settle the next day.

August 2011. Bigger establishment than I had imagined, but this was not at the expense of the welcome nor the personal and helpful service. Shambling old building packed with artefacts and interesting paintings, furniture etc. Lovely comfy residents' lounge with BAR! and honesty box - a very welcome sight on arrival.

We had a twin room with all comforts; breakfast was fine, and we were made to feel very comfortable throughout. Discounted room rate on account of my 15-yr-old; this made for excellent value for money. Recommended.

What a wonderfully warm and welcoming place. So much character and genuinely helpful staff.
We had a large twin, very comfortable and lots of room, superb breakfast the following morning.
We enjoyed coming back from the two pubs late in the evening, and sitting in the huge lounge by the roaring log fire, which we kept stoked up. I loved the ' honesty bar ' policy : great selection of bottled beers, spirits and wines etc, and you just write down in the book what you've consumed, along with your room number, and you settle the bill when you leave after breakfast - genius !
A great atmosphere, and I'm looking forward to staying again.
My colleague and I were doing part of the ' Herriot Way ' combined with part of the ' Coast to Coast ', and this was the best overnight stop.

Our room was tiny, with no view at all. The shower room (well-equipped, with a very large shower) was nearly as big as the bedroom. Breakfast not brilliant - scrambled eggs way overcooked, and seemed to have been put through a potato ricer.
